Current Building Energy Efficiency Standards
California’s Building Energy Efficiency Standards are updated on an approximately three-year cycle. The 2016 Standards will continue to improve upon the 2013 Standards for new construction of, and additions and alterations to, residential and nonresidential buildings. The effective date of the 2016 Standards is January 1, 2017.
Why Title 24 is Needed?
“The Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Standards) were first adopted and put into effect in 1978 and have been updated periodically in the intervening years. The Standards are a unique California asset and have benefited from the conscientious involvement and enduring commitment to the public good of many persons and organizations along the way.
The 2016 Standards development and adoption process continued that long-standing practice of maintaining the Standards with technical rigor, challenging but achievable design and construction practices, public engagement and full consideration of the views of stakeholders.”
